How Startup Funding Works for New York Founders
Read the video transcript
You have the idea. You have the plan. Maybe you've even picked out the name.
But when you walk into a bank, the first thing they ask for is two years of business history. And on day one, you don't have it.
That's the wall most New York entrepreneurs hit. Not a bad idea. Just no track record yet.
There's another way to fund a startup. It's called credit-based startup funding, and it's built for founders who are just getting started.
Instead of looking at your business history, approval is based on your personal credit.
That means no revenue required. No time in business. No bank statements. No tax returns.
Qualified founders can get up to $150,000, with an introductory 0% rate for up to 24 months.
Here's what you need. A FICO score of 680 or higher. Every credit card below 50% of its limit, with none maxed out. And a credit report pulled within the last seven days, with no credit freezes.
You can pull your report for free at annualcreditreport.com. Checking your own credit doesn't affect your score.
From Buffalo to Brooklyn, from Albany to Long Island, New Yorkers are turning ideas into businesses.
If you have the idea, the mission, and the credit, the funding may be closer than you think.

Questions
Startup Funding FAQ for New York Founders
What is startup funding?
Startup funding here means credit-based funding: capital approved mainly on your personal credit profile instead of business revenue. It is built for new and pre-revenue businesses that banks usually turn away.
How much can I get?
Up to $150,000. The amount you are offered depends on your personal credit profile and the funding partner's review.
Is it really 0%?
The 0% rate is an introductory rate that lasts up to 24 months. When it ends, the standard rate on each account applies. Ask your funding advisor what that rate will be before you accept, and plan how you will pay down the balance.
What credit score do I need?
A FICO score of 680 or higher, with an established credit history. Very thin credit files are usually declined.
What credit utilization do I need?
Each of your existing credit cards must be below 50% utilization, and none can be maxed out. Utilization is your balance divided by your limit. For example, on a card with a $1,000 limit, the balance needs to be under $500. If any card is near its limit, pay it down below 50% before you apply.
Do I need revenue, bank statements, or time in business?
No. Time in business, revenue, bank statements, and tax returns are not required for this program.
What do I need to apply?
A signed application and a copy of your credit report pulled within the last 7 days. Your credit must not be frozen. You can get your report free at annualcreditreport.com, and checking your own report does not affect your score.
Are you the lender?
No. NY Startup Funding is an independent referral partner of Reveal Lending. We do not lend money or make credit decisions, and we may be paid when you apply or are funded.
